I just have to share this picture. Don't you wish you were at our house for dinner on Saturday night? We had our international food group over to our place for Crete night. All dishes were specialties from the island -- some were general Greek recipes, while others were specific to Crete. As the hosts, we were in charge of the main dish. It used to be that one main dish was enough, but there has been a definite creep towards feeling the need to go more and more extravagant. We made the following dishes:
  1. Veal with eggplant
  2. Pork with celery
  3. Fennel pie
  4. Greek salad
  5. Kolokithokeftethes (zucchini balls, with lots of veggies and feta mixed together and then fried).
And that was just the main course! There were also about 4 appetizers and 2 desserts. You can't help but feel rich and lucky to have that much food on your table.

Even the raw ingredients are gorgeous! We bought some at the grocery store, some at Costco, and as many as possible from the local Saturday farmer's market. We found some gorgeous fennel for a steal as well as sweet local carrots, beautiful potatoes, some local tomatoes with much more taste than the imports, and a number of other fresh goodies.

And yes, we still have leftovers. Want to come over for lunch?

Those little baby zukes are so sweet looking. I know the feeling of wealth when the counter is full of fresh produce.
