Excitement of the Evening
Last night, Greg had a dinner engagement for a client so he didn't get home until after 9 pm. And he had turned off his cell phone during the dinner out of politeness. In normal circumstances, no problem.
Last night, however, we lost power at the house for about 45 minutes. Under normal circumstamces this wouldn't have been terribly exciting -- just a bit troublesome. But with Greg gone and unavailable by cell phone, and the house pitch black, and my inability to find a flashlight with working batteries, and the fact that a quick check out of my windows told me that my house was the ONLY house on the block without power -- well, it all became a bit more concerning.
I finally found a flashlight, placed new batteries in it (found with the help of the glow of my cell phone), and turned on the gas fireplace to see by its light to call the Power Company. There was a reported outage near our neighborhood -- but it still seemed strange that my house would be the only one on our street affected by it. Finally, the power came back on -- about 2 minutes before Greg walked in the door. Whew!

Wow, and it gets pretty dark at night now! That would have made me nervous too, but then I've been watching British espionage television with Roland lately.
