The kids participated in their first music camp this summer. There were so many good things about this camp -- it was right around the corner, it was just half a day so it didn't monopolize our time completely, and it seemed to instill a real love of music in my kids.
Christopher took 2 2-week sessions on guitar. For such a short period of time, he picked up quite a bit of musical terminology as well as the ability to pick out several songs. In the second session, he began working on chords instead of just picking out the tune. Cate only took 1-session (sorry no photos!) on keyboard but had a similarly great experience. She kept saying she wished she could take the morning session as well as the afternoon session. Even with camp over, she continues to try to pick out tunes by ear. She is signed up for continuing keyboard lessons starting in September. I'll admit, I'm wary of adding any more things to the schedule. She also wants to do Daisy scouts and I'm seeing the after school calendar quickly fill in. We'll see how it goes. In the meantime, it's been a very wonderful experience to see both kids enjoying music so much.
