Those of you who know Christopher well will appreciate just how much he loved being close to Aoki's and Matsumoto's -- well-regarded by locals as the best shave ice on the island. Hale'iwa, the town where they are located, was only about a 10 minute drive away from the rental house.

His love of shave ice was enough to keep him quiet in the mornings in his bed room after waking up (the first few days the kids were up early and waking up the entire house at 6 am -- not the adults' idea of a good vacation). We finally convinced him that his ability to have shave ice was dependent on better morning behavior and it was amazing to see the change in the morning noise level.
