Saturday was summer solstice -- the longest day of the year. While this may not be an important event in many parts of the world, here in Alaska we feel it's full glory. Anchorage receives 21 hours of sunlight on the solstice. From here, it's all downhill and we're losing sunlight, although we won't start feeling its effects until mid-August or so.
We celebrated with a fishing trip to Jewel Lake. We didn't have time to do a full weekend out in the wild since we're heading out to California tonight, but we carved out a few hours to fish. Christopher is pretty hard core. He wasn't ready to leave at 7 pm, even though we hadn't eaten dinner and were all getting a little hungry. We hadn't caught a fish yet and he was determined to catch one. You can see Cate was more interested in the worms than the fishing. Many girls might be squeamish with the creepy crawlies, but Cate enjoyed taking them out of their container to "play" with them and exclaim her love for them. An enjoyable evening and a nice way to enjoy some family time amidst a busy weekend.
