The first day of school appeared to go well. Christopher is enjoying the book that Leigh (his teacher) is reading to the class (something about a dragon, I believe -- great pick for boys!). He's getting the hang of the new routines and the changes between Kindergarten and first grade -- specifically the lack of building blocks and trains and other "free choice" stuff. He was excited about the fact that now he gets recess with the "big kids" (kindergarteners have separate recess). Mostly good with a good report from his teacher at the end of the day.
The only bad part? Christopher was the recepient of the first school yard injury of the year when a boy (you may be able to guess who) kicked him on the playground. Not sure the whole story and I'm trying not to get too horrified. Christopher says they were running together and all of a sudden the other boy kicked him and jammed a few of Christopher's fingers. One is particularly swollen and bruised -- enough so that the school nurse suggested an x-ray so we spent the afternoon at the doctor's office yesterday. Luckily, it isn't broken, but it is uncomfortable and makes writing with his right hand a bit difficult. The school principal was going to get involved today to talk to the other boy. A bit of a bummer on the first day, but the important stuff went well.

Ah, poor Toph! Is this a boy he had problems with last year?

Yep...same boy..they have a love/hate relationship. Christopher's not a wimp, yet he's the one who seems to get a few more of the lumps of their friendship.
