I've got a lot of Monopoly in my future. Christopher stayed home yesterday and today from school.

We took Christopher to be seen by his regular doc yesterday as a follow up to his ER visit. She thinks it is full-on pneumonia in addition to the asthma. We know that as of last Friday it was only asthma, because his symptoms were responding to the asthma medications. However, by Monday night those same medications were not working on his symptoms. With the pneumonia on top of things, that makes sense -- pneumonia doesn't respond to albuterol, and a peak flow test is not going to tell us the truth about his asthma.

I feel good to know what to look for now in terms of symptoms -- the ways that we'll monitor improvements or symptoms to be concerned about are different if it's pneumonia compared to only asthma. Now, we're incorporating a lot more of humidifiers, steam showers, and liquids instead of relying on albuterol and peak flow readings. Knowledge is power!

The doctor recommended one more day home from school (today) to give the antibiotic a good 48 hours to work. He seems improved today. He told me this morning that his airways were feeling good. He's still coughing some, but I think he's getting a lot more air in his lungs than he was yesterday. We cancelled all of our things on the schedule for one more day in favor of building Legos ships and playing Monopoly. Hopefully, we're on the road to improvement.
