This morning we celebrated Christopher as Student of the Week at his school. We made a big picture board with lots of pictures and stories. Greg, Cate and I all came and shared our favorites stories and things about Christopher for about 30 minutes. Kids asked questions. The kids will then spend part of the morning writing and illustrating stories about Christopher that will be made into a book he can bring home.
Sounds basic but to the kids, it's a big deal. As part of his 1st/2nd grade combo class, all 2nd graders get to be the Student of the Week. So kids spend all of their 1st grade year watching others do this. The anticipation is immense. Christopher could hardly sleep last night in the excitement of it being his big day. The only bummer? He really wished it had worked out for more family to be there. Grandma Polly and Papa Stan are in Peru, Grandma and Papa Vieten are in California...so no grandparents could make it. When he realized that last night, he started asking about every other relative -- could Matt & Brooke come (sorry, they need to be in Palmer for the kids' schools)? What about Uncle DG and Sandy? He finally had to settle for just the immediate family. He had a great time, though.
We then left the school and discovered a moose in our path to the car in the school parking lot. We had to wait a good 5 minutes waiting for him to decide to go someplace so that we could safely enter the car. Only in Alaska.

Looks like that moose wanted to go home with you. Congrats Toph!
Is it the rule that the student of the week has to have his face covered up in the class photo? :-)
Ummm... that was me that said that, not Heidi. I must be signed in under Heidi. Stop stealing my comments, Heidi.
