Last week it hardly seemed that Spring had arrived. Suddenly, we have summer! Beautiful, sunny afternoons (and nights with our Midnight Sun) for the past 3 days have made it hard to get anything done indoors. Laundry is piled up and the kitchen needs a scrubbing. All we want to do is enjoy the fantastic weather.
This weekend included alot of bicyling. Christopher got a new bicycle a week ago and is enjoying it tremendously. It's a great bike -- with gears and hand brakes. His old bike was the kind where you pedal backwards to brake, and you only go in one gear. He enjoys the speed he gets with the new bike, and I enjoy the fact that we can go on longer rides now that he can handle the hills more easily with the help of the different gears.
Greg spent some time over the weekend fixing up Cate's hand-me down 16-inch new bike (thanks Lisa!). She wasn't ready for the lack of training wheels, so he attached a pair for her. Still, the larger wheel size means that she can get around much more easily, too. The little 12-inch tricycles required too much pedaling and she'd get worn out. Now, we can easily make it to the park together as a family on our bikes. I have a feeling we'll be spending a good amount of time this summer riding around, and I might even plan some picnics on the coastal trail and other Anchorage trail systems so that we can really enjoy them.
